Night Photography: Sea Link

Yesterday, we visited my wife's cousin's place. Their apartment faces the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. During and after the sunset they get to see these mesmerizing views every day. We were carrying our Canon A710 IS but, realized only on reaching there that the batteries were low.

I knew I would not be able to zoom into the subject. With this limitation, I set the camera to Shutter Priority mode and shot these pictures at a shutter speed of 8 and 10 seconds. The longer exposures ensured that the camera received enough life thrown by the subject and that the captures look decent enough. If you zoom into the second photo, you will notice a horizontal line of light in the sky. That was an aircraft passing by.

Since the sun had already gone down, the Sea Link with all the lights on it looked very beautiful. The sky still had some light on the horizon and the dark clouds were noticeable. It had rained all afternoon but luckily it stopped when we had to leave for our cousin's place.

This is a view from the other side of their apartment. For each of the captures, I just placed the camera at the window / balcony and used the timer to avoid the camera shake. After all, you just can't capture photographs hand held when the exposure is as long as 8 - 10 seconds.
