Are you one of those bloggers feeling troubled by the auto pagination happening on blogger?
You happily set the No. of posts that blogger should show on your home page to X number thinking that blogger will display X number of posts on home page. However, you noticed that instead of X No. of posts, blogger is showing either 1 or 2 posts or some other lesser number Y.
You must be wondering why this has happened and Googled to find a solution and reached here.
You may not be aware that even if you set the no. of posts to be shown as X, blogger may want to show only 2-3 posts or may be even 1 post due to the fact that your posts are long and may require usage of a lot more resources of Google Servers than what a single blog should be doing. Well you can read more information here.
Let me quickly get to the solution to this that I could find out. When you are writing a post in the blogger post composer you will see an option called "Insert Jump Break". Refer to the graphic below:

Let me quickly get to the solution to this that I could find out. When you are writing a post in the blogger post composer you will see an option called "Insert Jump Break". Refer to the graphic below:
![]() |
| See the Red Marked areas for reference. Top button is for "Insert jump break" |
You can use this option and give a jump break somewhere in the middle of the post. This is actually meant to ensure that not all the content of the post will be shown on the home page. This is in case if you want to display small snippets of 7-8 or more posts on home page with each snippet showing a bit of content and ending with "Read More". Similar to what is seen on my home page. 7 posts are shown but not the complete content is seen. Even if your blogger template is programmed to automatically display snippets, you must insert the jump break to make sure that the number of posts that you have entered in the settings and the actual number posts shown on the home page, tally.
I can't technically explain how this works with the blogger logic of auto-pagination but yes, this did work for me. When I completed adding jump breaks on first 20-30 posts, the problem was solved. Now I've set the number to 7 and you'll see that there are 7 posts showing on the home page.
So try this solution and leave a comment if this works.
This post is a bit off topic from my usual content of photography but I'm so glad that I could solve this problem that want to help others who are facing similar sort of trouble :-)

ReplyDeleteThank you very much. Really works!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the solution. But im already using the Page break with Read more.
ReplyDeleteI kept 8 number of posts to display on my main page but showing only 4. Please help?
What's your blog URL?
Deletewww.teradatawiki.net
DeleteJust one more query, Is the page break function defined in your blog template or are you setting it manually? If it is automated, then I feel the fix won't work. You will have to try and define the page break manually in all your posts.
DeleteThanks for the quick response. I have defined in template itself.. But my question is what the issue in showing defined posts number?
DeleteThat's a bit too technical for me to understand.
DeleteIn your case, despite having pre-defined the page break in code, if you do it manually also, then your problem will be solved. However that is not a permanent solution. Even my template has the page-break predefined in the code but I still do it manually. You may not be required to do this in all posts. Even if you do it manually for last 10-15 posts your problem will be solved.
Thanks for the post. I am already using page break with Read more. I kept 8 as number of posts to display on my main page but showing only 4.
ReplyDeleteMake sure you provide jump break in all your posts.
Deleteproblem resolved thank you

Amin please solve issue my template problem. I want to show 6 post in my blogger home page. I am doing 2 ways No1. setting..post and comments No.2 layout go to post. show 6. But isn't working. Only 6 post showing in my homepage. Please help me. I apply a lots of template in my blogspot. But final reason isn't working. PLEASE http://www.wallpaperyork.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteThis worked absolutely brilliantly for me on a recent theme I made for my friend Zoe (http://zoelondon.me). I was having a problem getting more than 7 posts to display, so thank you for taking the time to write this up as it really helped me out.
ReplyDeleteTo the OP - it may be worth mentioning that 'Insert Jump Break' adds " " to the post HTML. I find it easier to do that than use the the somewhat ropey WYSIWYG Editor on Blogger. It's the first time I've developed a template for Blogger. This and many other problems make it very difficult to advocate Blogger to anyone!
Thank you again!
it really works...............thanks LOT. #APPRECIATED

Deleteit didn't work for me, i still have just 4 posts in the main page of my blogger
ReplyDeleteyou can see that by yourself this is my blogger http://thebestoflatest.blogspot.com
Hey its showing 8 posts -)
DeleteIt works! Thanks for this post! But just want to check with you. If my June archive has like 30 posts. Can it all appear in one page? Because without the jumpbreak, only 1 post appeared even when I pressed June archive. In this case, no one can access my other posts.
ReplyDeleteVanessa, you will have to provide jump break in all posts to make it work perfectly. I know that can be a bit tedious but once done, it will work fine and then you can provide jump break in each new post.
DeleteThank you very much Man!! you are a life savior. My blog is for short term duration. I was frustrated by this problem from two days. But you trick worked. Thanks a lot!!

ReplyDeleteGlad it worked. :-)
DeleteWell, I have tried it, but my blog doesnt show "read more" option under the post.. Any ideas why? :) Thanks.. iamjusttellin.blogspot.sk
ReplyDeleteHi Jenna, Your blog does have a Read More link but it's invisible due to the link COLOR. Your background color is white and so is the link color for Read More. Sharing a screenshot of your blog here. If you notice, on rollover the link is visible.
DeleteOne more tip, when you are on your home page. Press [CTRL + A] the page content will be selected thus also showing the READ MORE link.
Then you only need to change your link color it's white currently :-)
This worked for me! thanks!!!!

ReplyDeleteToo bad it's not my case. In my page recent posts shows only a thumbnail of photo and a few words, so it can't be shortened more. Until recently I had no problems, my page showed 10 recent posts as in settings but this week it changed by itself to 7 - and not showing page navigation bar below them also, leaving ugly blank space... I haven't made any changes to html code, I just have no idea what could solve this... My blog is: www.photoriga.com
